A Rare Sighting of the Mocha Marlin

This Friday, 5-8pm, Ballast Point drops by Mueller to pour samples of their Aloha Sculpin and Mocha Marlin, the latter being one of only two kegs in the state of Texas. Catch this elusive beer before it’s too late.

And keep buying our May Brewery of the Month, Austin Beerworks. Six packs of all their beers for $7.99. If it’s got a big A, it’s on sale, so come in and pick up a six pack or two now.

Oh! Make sure to drop by both locations next week, 5/18 at Lamar and 5/19 at Mueller, as Austin Beerworks helps us ring in our fourth anniversary with their very first 750ml bottle, Wizardry. This Imperial Stout has been aged in port and Witherspoon whiskey barrels with vanilla, chicory, and Vermont maple syrup. Pick up a bottle or four (limit four per customer) of this fantastic new beer. More details next week.

And finally, have you always wanted to work at your favorite local bottle shop: talking beer, selling beer, and sometimes sampling said beer? Now’s your chance! We’re looking for someone – or someones – to work part-time at both of our locations. Prior retail experience is helpful, though not necessary, but you must have a love of beer (and coffee) and be helpful, outgoing, and willing to learn. Email resumes to jody [at] whichcraftbeerstore.com.

New Beers This Week

(All beer available at both WhichCraft locations unless otherwise noted)

Back in Stock: Bell’s Pooltime, Nine Band June Bug, Nine Band Cactus Cat, Moonlight Them Little Apples, Locust Mojito, Locust Honey Pear, Locust Dark Cherry, Real Ale 22nd Anniversary Berliner Weisse

Bell’s Hopsolution – A remarkably drinkable Double IPA that pays tribute to one of Mother Nature’s finest creations, as several hop varietals combine for massive aromas of tropical fruit, citrus and pine. A mild caramel malt character and dry finish provide balance. 8% ABV / Comstock, MI / RateBeer 97 / Availability: Decent

Dogfish Head 120 Minute – Too extreme to be called beer? Brewed to a colossal 45°P, boiled for a full 2 hours while being continually hopped with high alpha American hops, dry-hopped every day in the fermenter for a month, and aged for a month on whole leaf hops, 120 Minute IPA is by far the strongest IPA ever brewed. 19% ABV / Milton, DE / RateBeer 99 / Availability: Limited

(512) Whiskey Barrel Double Pecan Porter – This is a bigger, bolder version of their mainstay Pecan Porter, with a richer finish. Two months on recently emptied whiskey barrels impart a wonderful vanilla character from the oak and a pleasant amount of whiskey nose and flavor. 9% ABV / Austin, TX / RateBeer 99 / Availability: Very Limited

New Belgium Hemperor – New Belgium found a unique way to recreate the flavors of hemp with a beer that complements the inclusion of hop flavors and hemp hearts (seeds) to deliver something new, delicious and extremely dank. 7% ABV / Fort Collins, CO / Availability: Good

Sierra Nevada / Weihenstephaner Braupakt – The amber, naturally cloudy Hefeweissbier adorns a creamy head and smells of peach, apricot and citrus fruits with a fine banana yeast note as well as a refreshing grapefruit note from the Chinook hops. The fruity peach and apricot taste of the Amarillo hops is complemented by the mild sweetness of the used caramel malt. The fine, fresh body of Hefeweissbier develops a harmonious mouthfeel on the finish. 6% ABV / Chino, CA / Availability: Decent

Stone I’m Peach IIPA – When done right, adding fruit can contribute a deeper level of delicious complexity to a beer. In this case, peach was the perfect complement to enhance the substantial bill of hops in this double IPA. May its reign last more than a few terms. 8.8% ABV / Escondido, CA / Availability: Decent

Ska Brewing Rue B. Soho – At first, your nose is treated to the aroma of bright and crisp citrus. Then your tongue is tickled by the carbonation that delivers flavors of tart and light grapefruit juice. Lightly acidulated, Rue B. Soho is a refreshing lager brewed w/ cascade hops and grapefruit. 5.1% ABV / Durango, CO / Availability: Good / SoLa Only

Founders Dankwood – What do you get when a big, bold imperial red IPA meets an oak bourbon barrel? A palate stunner that’ll send your senses spinning or, as we like to call it, Dankwood. Rich caramel notes emerge from the depths of the IPA, highlighting strong malt character while the bourbon barrel-aging develops the complexity. A dank, sticky and slightly sweet sipper, Dankwood is the perfect alchemy of wood and hops. 12.2 % ABV / Grand Rapids, MI / RateBeer 90 / Availability: Decent / SoLa Only

Buffalo Bayou Vanilla Mocha Sunset – Heavy aromatic notes of Amaya coffee up front, subtle hints of vanilla, and dark chocolate malt for a full-bodied finish. 9.2% ABV / Houston, TX / RateBeer 90 / Availability: Good / SoLa Only

Big Bend Transcendence IPA – Hazy New England style IPA with all the hop flava. 6.8% ABV / Alpine, TX

Lakewood IPA – Rather than brew a bitter bomb, this balanced American India Pale Ale bursts with tropical flavors like grapefruit, papaya, and tangerine from a blend of Bravo, Citra, Mosaic, and Mandarina hops. This everyday IPA is bold without being brash. 7% ABV / Garland, TX

Ballast Point Aloha Sculpin – Brux Trois yeast turns this award-winning IPA into a tropical oasis, with bright and refreshing notes of mango, pineapple and guava, along with a slight haze and smooth mouthfeel. 7% ABV / San Diego, CA

Ballast Point Mocha Marlin – The addition of coffee and cocoa plays perfectly of the roasty, chocolaty flavors of this English porter, while a hint of vanilla smooths it all out. It’s full-bodied, but not too sweet; try it for breakfast…or dessert. 6% ABV / San Diego, CA / RateBeer 98

Bell’s Oberon – A wheat ale fermented with Bell’s signature house ale yeast, mixing a spicy hop character with mildly fruity aromas. The addition of wheat malt lends a smooth mouthfeel, making it a classic summer beer. 5.8% ABV / Galesburg, MI / BeerAdvocate 86

Anderson Valley G & T Gose – GT Gose showcases botanical flavors and aromas of lemon peel, juniper, lemongrass, and grains of paradise. With a juicy lemon-lime tartness and a slightly peppery finish, we’ve given the gose style a unique spin that we’re sure you’ll enjoy. 4.2% ABV / Boonville, CA
