A Superb Owl Descends

Yay, sportsball! All apologies to our Patriots and Eagles fans, but man, this is not going to be an easy one to cheer for, is it? And no Prince for a halftime show in Minneapolis, either? Don’t worry, we here at WhichCraft have you covered, whether for consumption or for pouring one out to His Royal Badness. Starting today, we have a doozy of a weekend sale: take the ABV% of the beer off the price. That’s right: anything from 3.7% off a Mikkeller Ich Bin Ein Berliner Weisse to 16.8% off the Bruery Poterie, and everything in between. And to save us all a headache, mix-and-match singles will be 10% off. The Superb Owl approves.

Speaking of nocturnal winged predators, we have a new Brewery of the Month for February: Austin’s own Blue Owl Brewing. We hate seeing Martin House go, but we’re excited to welcome this sour slinger as our next BotM. Pick up 6 packs of Little Boss, Spirit Animal, and Van Dayum for $6.99 all friggin’ month.

Finally, don’t miss an outstanding event we have planned Saturday, February 3, at Mueller from 4-7pm. If you missed your chance at picking up some Bell’s Hopslam in cans, don’t worry: we’re tapping a keg of it. Along with sampling their core lineup of tasty beers, get yourself a pour of this stellar IPA before it goes, and goes fast.

New Beers This Week

(All beer available at both WhichCraft locations unless otherwise noted)

Back in Stock: Brazos Valley Lost Highway, Andechs Doppelbock, Schilling Chaider

Santa Fe Lustgarten – When grain and yeast love each other very much, a beer is born. When you add some raspberries, things get a little freaky-deaky and you end up with this. Lustgarten is a dark lager that has toast and chocolate notes with just a subtle hint of raspberry. The perfect beer to split with someone special. Or the perfect beer to split with absolutely no one since it’s just a 12-ounce can and will only be around for a limited time. 5.7% ABV / Santa Fe, NM / Availability: Good / SoLa Only

Community Oaked Mosaic – Community has added oak spirals – carefully-milled helixes of American oak – to their aging tanks, infusing their beloved Mosaic IPA with delicious notes of oak, honey, vanilla, and coconut while preserving the beautiful hop profile. 8.6 %ABV / Dallas, TX / RateBeer 95 / Availability: Good

Martin House Hibiscus Saison – This is a souped up version of their River House saison. They added Hibiscus petals for color and a tart, cranberry-like flavor. The higher ABV balances out the intense flavors and the dryness makes it especially refreshing. 7% ABV / Fort Worth, TX / Availability: Good

Brooklyn Bel Air Sour –  A breezy, tart, dry hopped sour ale. 5.8% ABV / Brooklyn, NY / RateBeer 84 / Availability: Decent

Ballast Point Sour Wench – This Blackberry Ale was originally developed by Ballast Point’s original Master Brewer Peter A’Hearn and Colby Chandler. While interning in Germany, Peter fell in love with the Berliner Weisse style of beer, a beer made with a procedure in which the mash was soured. The tartness of the Oregon State Marion Blackberries, at one pound per gallon, was a perfect addition for this sour style. Sour Wench is not aged in oak barrels. In the end, it’s a great bridge beer into the sour styles. 7% ABV / San Diego, CA / Availability: Good

Bell’s Larry’s Latest Sour – Kettle soured ale with a dry hop burst. 5% ABV / Galesburg, MI / Availability: Good

Anderson Valley Framboise Rose Gose – By adding rose hips to the boil and fresh raspberry puree at the end of fermentation, this kettle-soured beer is a mélange of flavors and aromas. With a light ruby hue, subtle raspberry fruit notes greet the nose and fall soft on the palate; tangy, hibiscus-like flavors mingle with the salty tartness of gose to create a uniquely complex and refreshing drinking experience. 4.2% ABV / Boonville, CA / Availability: Good /  / SoLa Only

Mahr’s Brau Kellerbier Ungespundet-Lager – It pours with a big, creamy, long-lasting, head and has a golden-bronze color. This has a wonderfully fresh, perfumy hop aroma, a remarkably smooth, malty, palate, with very fresh flavors and a spritzy finish. It is beautifully balanced, but leans to the dry side. This is a delicious, appetizing beer and a true taste of Germany’s fast-vanishing artisanal tradition. 5.2% ABV / Bamberg, Germany / Availability: Good  / SoLa Only

(The anniversary beer from the oldest monastery brewery in the world is a unique composition of malt and hop aroma and shines with its golden yellow color.). 5.5% ABV / Bamberg, Germany / Availability: Good  / SoLa Only

Rodenbach Grand Cru – A blend of 1/3 young beer and 2/3 of beer aged 2 years in large oak vats. The more important proportion of oak matured beer contributes to its fruity taste, complexity, and intensity. The finish is worthy of a great wine. 6% ABV / Roeselare, Belgium / RateBeer 98 / Availability: Decent  / SoLa Only

Alaskan Spruce IPA – IPA brewed with spruce tips. 7% ABV / Juneau, AK / Availability: Good  / SoLa Only

Oasis 2.13 – A bantam-sized crystal blonde pale ale brewed and dry-hopped with Chinook, Mandarina, Bavaria, and El Dorado. 4% ABV / Austin, TX / Availability: Good  / SoLa Only

Roughtail Adaptation – This dude is an oat-driven MWC hazy IPA, using their standard 2-row base malt and cara copper with not one, but TWO types of oats. Adaptation 11 is rockin’ golden naked oats and flaked oats, giving this rendition of their rotating IPA series a silky mouthfeel, beautiful golden color, and a slight nutty backbone. And that’s not all! During fermentation, they dumped a respectable amount of Citra in, and then right as it was finishing, gave this baby a super aromatic double dry hop with more Citra, Motueka, and Hallertau Blanc. Expect giant citrus aromas and tropical flavors from this hop combination. 8% ABV / Midwest City, OK / Availability: Limited

New Beers on Draft at WhichCraft Taproom

Full Draft List Available on our Website

Funkwerks Raspberry Provincial – This delightfully tart fruit beer is refreshng, with a citrusy raspberry aroma which transitions to a subtlety sweet and tart finish. Notes of lemon zest and tart raspberries. 4.2% ABV / Longmont, CO / RateBeer 90

Pinthouse Pizza Handlebier IPA – A modern update on the classic American Pale. Brewed with a light and refreshing malt bill accented with classic American Cascade and new school Mosaic lupulin powder. Aromas of ruby red grapefruit and balsam pine followed with flavors of tropical fruit and blueberry. 5.4% ABV / Austin, TX

Pinthouse Pizza Joe’s Magical Pils – A truly German style pilsner brewed with Heirloom pilsner malt and Loral hops. This magical elixir showcases notes of light floral, herbal, and fruity hop, balanced with a dusting of spiced fruit character and a refreshingly soft mouthfeel. 5.3% ABV / Austin, TX

Black Star Inveterate Dockhand – Chocolate oatmeal porter brewed with SRSLY Chocolate cacao nibs. 8% ABV / Austin, TX

Black Star Crochety Dockhand – Inspired by the old, grouch of a man that enjoys roasted coffee with his morning oatmeal, Crotchety Dockhand is dark and roasty, with the morning flavors of coffee, oats, and molasses. 5.7% ABV / Austin, TX

Roughtail Everything Rhymes with Orange – Soft, pillowy mouthfeel, hazy and non-filtered with juicy citrusy hops and a fluffy white head. This IPA features mid-low bitterness and a full, soft body while still finishing dry and clean like the rest of the Roughtail lineup. Simcoe hops are featured, with Citra and Mosaic providing backup and complexity. 7% ABV / Oklahoma City, OK / RateBeer 97

Weathered Souls Rule 4080 – All-Citra pale ale, dry hopped once with Citra hops. Mild bitterness, low ABV, subtle malt character that brings out the beer. Very hop forward on the nose. Fruity characteristics from Citra: citrus, pineapple and mangoes. 5.2% ABV / San Antonio, TX

Buffalo Bayou 1836 Copper Ale – This beer combines two of their favorite flavors: a sweet and toasty measure of Victory malts counter-balanced with the earthy, woody, powerful, but balanced aromatics of citrusy & floral American & British hops. The bready, biscuit flavors of Victory Malt (an American spin on the Belgian Biscuit malts) finishes clean leaving a dry roast on the mouthfeel. 5.7% ABV / Houston, TX

Austin Beerworks Ski Jeans – ABW/Odell session IPA collab. Odell brought a giant bale of private hop stash, ABW brought a tank of liquid nitrogen. Together they shattered frozen hops in a radical collaboration. Made in Odell’s original brewhouse right here at Austin Beerworks, Ski Jeans is a celebration of heritage, hops, and terrible slope attire. 7.5% ABV / Austin, TX
