New Beers This Week

Back in stock: Not Your Father’s Root Beer, Jester King Mad Meg.

Prairie Pirate Noir* – Pirate Noir is Prairie’s very popular and delicious Noir that is then Jamaican rum barrel aged. The base beer is an imperial oatmeal stout that then takes on intense notes of vanilla, coconut, and rum. 11% ABV/Tulsa, OK/Ratebeer 97/Availability: limited, will go fast/*Arriving Friday

Jester King Snörkel – Jester King partnered with neighboring Logro Farms to grow oyster mushrooms that were then combined with alderwood smoked sea salt in this slightly salty farmhouse ale.  The mushrooms were grown with spent grain from the brewery itself, creating a full circle. 4.5% ABV/Austin, TX/Ratebeer 91/Availability: decent

Sam Adams Fat Jack – It’s pumpkin beer season! Our employees took a mini internal poll 2 weeks ago to see if someone could guess the first pumpkin beer to be released, and alas, no one guessed Sam Adams. 28 pounds of pumpkin are used per barrel, in addition to cinnamon, nutmeg and allspice for a traditional pumpkin pie-style flavor. 8.5% ABV/Boston, MA/Ratebeer 89/Availability: plenty

Deschutes Pine Drop IPA – This lively IPA delivers a crisp and light malt body with ample citrus and pine notes from Chinook and Equinox hops. 6.5% ABV/Bend, OR/Ratebeer 93/Availability: decent

Uinta Dubhe Imperial Black IPA – Dubhe is comprised of five hop varieties, a hop profile bold enough to shine through the roasted, dark malt character of this beer. A citrusy hop aroma, achieved by dry hopping with a proprietary blend of extreme Northwest hops, balanced with notes of mild dark chocolate and a hint of sweet licorice. 9.2% ABV/Salt Lake City, UT/Ratebeer 98/Availabilty: plenty

Southern Tier Choklat Oranj – Choklate Oranj is the 5th beer in the Blackwater series of dessert beers. Choklat Oranj is a stout brewed with chocolate and orange peels and opaque black in color.  Would be delicious as a beer float! 10% ABV/Lakewood, NY/Ratebeer 98/Availability: limited

Revolver Ironhead IPA – Revolver’s first year-round IPA is now available in 6 pack bottles. It features Centennial, Citra, Apollo and Saphir hops for a slightly bitter but very aromatic combination. 6.5% ABV/Granbury, TX/No ratings yet/Availabilty: plenty

Boulevard Aztec Chocolate Imperial Stout* – A batch of Imperial Stout was brewed that received freshly ground cinnamon during the boil. This batch was then blended with tanks of Imperial Stout that are infused with dried pasilla negro and ancho chiles as well as cacao nibs. The chiles and cacao nibs were stuffed into porous bags and suspended in sanitized stainless steel tanks. Finished beer is transferred onto the chiles and nibs and allowed to rest for 24 hours of contact time. Following the infusion, the beer is transferred to a blending tank and blended with the cinnamon spiced batch.  11% ABV/Kansas City, MO/Ratebeer 97/Availability: limited

Ballast Point Calm Before the Storm* – Calm Before the Storm came from a quest for a warm weather alternative to the popular Victory at Sea Imperial Porter. Like its more robust cousin, cold brewed Caffé Calabria coffee and a hint of vanilla are used to punch up the flavor. But this time, it was added to a lighter-bodied golden cream ale. The end result is a surprisingly bright, coffee-forward beer that’s perfectly refreshing. 5.5% ABV/San Diego, CA/Beer Advocate 86/Availability: decent/*Arriving Friday

Infinite Monkey Theorem Pear Cider – IMT is an urban cidery first located in the RiNo district of Denver. Their two founders and owners recently relocated to Austin and are planning on building out another urban winery tasting room right on South Congress. In the meantime, we’re excited about their dry hopped pear cider that comes in red bull-shaped cans. Citra and Nelson Sauvin hops give a bright, citrusy and tropical fruit aroma. 5.6% ABV/Denver, CO/Availability: decent

Both Weihenstephaner and Spaten Oktoberfest beers have just launched, so get some authentic Munich märzen action!

Boulevard Tell Tale Tart* – Brand new in the Smokestack 4 pack series, this is a kettle sour mash with a light lactic note on the aroma and hint of tart cherry as well. On the palate, there is a mild dose of lactic/slightly acetic tartness right up front, followed by a bit of tart cherry moving back on the sip. Very dry finish. 6.2% ABV/Kansas City, MO/Beer Advocate 84/Availability: decent

Buffalo Bayou Saigon Sunset – Vanilla Mocha Sunset porter is the base beer to which Vietnamese cinnamon is added for a sweet, spicy and complex brew. 8% ABV/Houston, TX/No ratings yet
