Stylin’ with the Beer Museum

We have exciting news on the horizon: we’ve partnered with the Beer Museum to host an evening of tasting Single Hop IPAs. Called Style Night, we’ll be sampling five different IPAs, all from different breweries, and tasting the nuances, similarities, and differences of style. This unique event will be hosted by WhichCraft’s own Lindsay Compton, a Certified Cicerone, providing in-depth knowledge about the hops used in each Single Hop IPA, and talking about hop anatomy, alpha and beta acids, and much more. This all goes down on June 13, 7-8pm, at WhichCraft Mueller. Follow the link to reserve your spot now!

And we can’t miss a chance to bring up that we’re smack dab in the middle of Craft Beer Week. I know we’re preaching to the choir, but we couldn’t be happier to be slinging drinks and popping bottles for each and every one of you, each and every week. We’ll continue to keep scouring this great state and beyond to bring in the highest quality, most quaffable, and uniquely brewed beverages, and we’ll trust you to keep us at that high standard. And before the weather gets too unbearable, take some trips to your local brewery. It’s always fun to see how the sausage is made, and there’s bound to be something crazy delicious only offered on tap there, like Live Oak’s Grodziskie. Keep supporting your local breweries, your local bottle shop, and as always, #CanTheGrodz.

Goose Island Cooper Project #1 – The Cooper Project is a rotating series that highlights Goose Island’s barrel-aging program. The first release of 2017, this scotch ale pours a deep copper color that precedes notes of rich malt, toffee, and subtle roast, for a seamless blend of beer and barrel flavors. Aged in bourbon barrels for four months. 8.7% ABV / Chicago, IL / BeerAdvocate 85 / Availability: Limited

Wicked Weed La Bonte Plum – Brettanomyces farmhouse ale open-fermented with a half-pound per gallon of Italian plums and aged in the foeder. 6.5% ABV / Asheville, BC / RateBeer 97 / Availability: Extremely Limited / SoLa Only

Wicked Weed Monmaretto – Montmaretto was aged in neutral wine barrels, where it undergoes a secondary fermentation on a pound per gallon of cherries. A portion of the beer was aged with almonds to impart an amaretto character. The barrels were then blended until the perfect balance was struck. / 6.9% ABV / Asheville, NC / RateBeer 98 / Availability: Extremely Limited / SoLa Only

Wicked Weed Recurrant – Recurrant begins as a deep amber sour ale and is blended onto copious amounts of black currants. It is then laid to rest in 500L cabernet puncheon barrels. The larger, red wine barrels lend a delicate complexity to the final blend. 7.7% ABV / Asheville, NC / RateBeer 98 / Availability: Extremely Limited / SoLa Only

Martin House Queen of the Mist – This is their barrel-aged Salty Lady, refermented with a different fruit for each version. This iteration, their fifth, uses passion fruit. 6.5% ABV / Ft. Worth, TX / Availability: Extremely Limited

Karbach Here Comes the Sun – A tripel that celebrates Spring with bright flavors and effervescence. Clean, with notes of fresh fruit, floral hops, and spicy Belgian yeast character, this ale bursts alive with the aromas of springtime. 8.5% ABV / Houston, TX / BeerAdvocate 86 / Availability: Good

Dogfish Festina Peche – In Festina Peche, since the natural peach sugars are eaten by the yeast, the fruit complexity is woven into both the aroma and the taste of the beer, so there is no need to doctor it with woodruff or raspberry syrup. Just open and enjoy! 4.5% ABV / Milton, DE / BeerAdvocate 83 / Availability: Good

Dogfish Head Romantic Chemistry – What you have here is a serious India Pale Ale shacking up and hunkering down with mango and apricots. At the same time! Romantic Chemistry is brewed with an intermingling of mangoes, apricots, and ginger, then dry-hopped with three varieties of hops to deliver a tropical fruit aroma and a hop-forward finish. It’s fruity, it’s hoppy, it’s tasty! 7.2% ABV / Milton, DE / BeerAdvocate 85 / Availability: Decent

Odell Brazzle Sour Golden Raspberry – Aged in oak barrels with wild yeasts and 300 pounds of golden raspberries. Don’t be fooled by the bubbly light mouthfeel and delicate raspberry sweetness, there’s a subtle tartness that is not quite sour enough to make you pucker, but will prickle the back of your tongue, leaving a crisp and refreshing finish. 5.4% ABV / Ft. Collins, CO / RateBeer 97 / Availability: Decent

Odell Flemish Giant – Begins with notes of tart ruby red grapefruit and cherry, finishing with sweet raisin and fig. Woodcut, toasted oak barrels, Bourbon barrels, rum barrels, and chardonnay barrels all contribute different layers and depth to the final beer. 6.6% ABV / Ft. Collins, CO / Availability: Decent

Sierra Nevada Summerfest – Summerfest is a refreshing, pilsner-style lager. Lighter in body than their other ales but just as complex in character, Summerfest quenches your thirst with big aroma and a tangy hop bite. / Chico, CA / BeerAdvocate 83 / Availability: Good / SoLa Only

Sierra Nevada Hoptimum – Pushing the extremes of whole-cone hop brewing, the result is a 100-IBU, whole-cone hurricane of flavor. Aggressively hopped, dry-hopped, and torpedoed with their exclusive new hop varieties for ultra-intense flavors and aromas. The flavor follows the aroma with notes of grapefruit rind, rose, lilac, cedar, and tropical fruit—all culminating in a dry and lasting finish. 10.4% ABV / Chico, CA / RateBeer 99 / Availability: Limited / SoLa Only

Oasis You May All Go to Helles, I Will Go to Texas – Light drinker at 4.5% ABV with a slightly bigger malt build and a nice floral hop finish. While abrasive in its name, this beer is a gentle beast! 4.5% ABV / Austin, TX / Availability: Good / SoLa Only

Alamo Summer Kolsch – An easy drinking German-style ale. Cologne yeast adds a floral, peppery aroma, and the Czech hops are powerful and spicy. Expect a light, crisp, and crushable beer, perfect for the summer season. 4.7% ABV / San Antonio, TX / Availability: Good / SoLa Only

Avery Coconut Porter – Freshly-emptied bourbon barrels and an audacious amount of coconut complement the chocolatey nature of this decadent porter. 10.4% ABV / Boulder, CO / BeerAdvocate 87 / Availability: Decent

Lakewood Red Wine Till & Toil – Lakewood’s spring seasonal Belgian saison, aged in red wine barrels. High class on the farm. 8.5% ABV / Garland, TX / Ratebeer 91 / Availability: Limited

Freetail BBA Local Coffee Stout – Local Coffee Stout brewed with Freetail’s neighbors at Merit Roasting, it was then added to sweet Kentucky Bourbon barrels to age the results of the collaboration. Mature American oak adds depth and complexity, creating a subtle shift in flavor and overall perception.
