Back in stock: Uinta Oak Jacked Imperial Pumpkin, Lone Pint Yellow Rose (arriving Friday).

We’re excited to say we’ll be getting a new batch of Lakewood that will be available late Friday or first thing Saturday morning! We’ll be getting Punkel & Temptress.

Martin House Salty Lady Gose* — One of Martin House Brewery’s most popular beers, the Salty Lady is a gose with a touch of citrus and coriander for a refreshing slightly tart finish. 5% ABV/Fort Worth, TX/Ratebeer 95/Availability: plenty/*Arriving Friday

Dogfish 120 Minute IPA – Dogfish’s semi-annual hop beast release is out again; this batch was bottled at the end of July. Being an IPA, you can obviously drink this as fresh as possible, though some people like to age this IPA like you would a barley wine. Very limited & will go fast. Milton, DE/Ratebeer 99/Availability: very limited

We’re excited to be one of the first retailers in Austin to help launch Freetail Brewing of San Antonio. Austin drinkers have been asking for over a year now when Freetail would finally make it up this way and that day is finally here. The first 4 beers listed below are in 6 pack cans while the Witicus is a bomber. We’re doing custom 4 pack cans… try one of each of the new canned releases for only $7 + tax.

Freetail Rye Wit – Untraditional Belgian-inspired beer brewed with raw wheat and 15% malted rye; seasoned with coriander and orange peel.. Delicately spicy, but assertive enough to take on the richest of flavors.  4.4% ABV/San Antonio, TX/Beer Advocate 88/Availability: plenty

Freetail Bat Outta Helles – Traditional Helles-style lager—Munich’s initial answer to Bohemian Pils—very pale, with significant sweet malt flavor and drying hop finish. 4.2% ABV/San Antonio, TX/Beer Advocate 86/Availability: plenty

Freetail Original Amber – Freetail’s first ever release back in 2008, this is an easy drinking and well balanced amber ale. Brewed with Pils, Munich, Vienna and Caramunich malts hand in hand with European and American hops. 6.3% ABV/San Antonio, TX/Availability: plenty

Freetail Soul Doubt IPA – Pils, pale and caramel provide a light & pale body for the late hop additions of Amarillo and Cascade. Citrus, orchard fruit and wildflower aroma and flavor. 6.8% ABV/ San Antonio, TX/Availability: plenty

Freetail Witicus Double Rye Wit – Brewed with pils malt, malted rye and raw wheat this big, Ameri-Belgo-style ale is a far cry from its little brother. Bursting with fruit esters of pear, pineapple and citrus from our favorite yeast strain. 8.2% ABV/San Antonio, TX/Ratebeer 92/Availability: plenty

Jolly Pumpkin Forgotten Tales – This oak aged sour saison is a collaboration with Celina Tio, chef/owner of JULIAN and The Belfry in Kansas City. Brewed with mango and tamarind and a touch of rye. Well balanced, slightly fruity and spicy. A complex but still easy drinking brew. 5.7% ABV/Dexter, MI/Ratebeer 99/Availability: decent

Stone Thunderstruck IPA – Stone’s 19th anniversary double IPA owes its considerable oomph to a quartet of Australian hops—Topaz and Galaxy, plus newcomers Ella and Vic Secret. Also Fairview malt was shipped in from Australia just for this brew. The beer’s striking tropical fruit, citrus and peach hop flavors and slightly resinous and aromatically dank earthiness are sure to electrify your senses. 8.7% ABV/Escondido, CA/Ratebeer 98/Availability: limited

Goose Island Madame Rose – Madame Rose is a crimson colored Belgian style brown ale fermented with wild yeast and aged on cherries in wine barrels. Layers of malty complexity, sour cherry, spice and wood notes make Madame Rose an ideal beer for Bordeaux enthusiasts and beer drinkers fond of Belgian Kriek and Flanders Brown Ales. This batch was bottled over a year ago in March 2014! 6.7% ABV/Chicago, IL/Ratebeer 99/Availability: limited

Nebraska Hop Anomaly – Chardonnay Barrel aged version. This is a fascinating, big, bold Belgian-style Tripel hopped in very high amounts to concentrate citrus, grapefruit and floral aromatics in the nose. The addition of Chardonnay barrel aging adds further dimension and oak tannins to an already wonderfully complex ale – bringing to mind tropical fruits and peach. 10.8% ABV/Papillion, NE/Ratebeer 99/Availability: limited

More Oktoberfest beers! New releases from Real Ale, Seguin, Goliad & Ballast Point.

Prairie Rugby* – Prairie’s latest release is a pale ale brewed with Summit & Chinook hops.  It’s a medium-bodied ale with notes of biscuit that nicely compliment the piney resin notes the hops add. 5.4% ABV/Tulsa, OK/Beer Advocate 87/Availability: decent/*Arriving Friday

Ballast Point Pumpkin Down* – The caramel and toffee maltiness of Ballast Point’s Piper Down Scottish ale is the perfect backdrop for a boatload of roasted pumpkin. Just before bottling, a subtle amount of spice is added to complement, but not overwhelm, the earthy flavor. 5.8% ABV/San Diego, CA/Beer Advocate 87/Availability: limited/*Arriving Friday

2014 Epic Imperial Pumpkin Porter* – This beer explodes with aromas of sweet spices giving way to chocolate and roasted malt.  Flavors are reminiscent of fresh-cut pumpkin and chocolate and complimented by hints of clove, fresh Madagascar vanilla beans, nutmeg and allspice. This version has been cellared since last fall, so some of the sweetness has faded making it a rich & delicate pumpkin ale. 8% ABV/Salt Lake City, UT/Ratebeer 96/Availability: decent/*Arriving Friday

Hops & Grain Greenhouse #28 – Back again! Bravo, Centennial & Equinox take center stage this time around.

New Beers This Week

Back in stock: Lone Pint Yellow Rose, Jester King Snorkel & Wytchmaker.

(512) Funky Kingston – We always love when we get a chance to buy (512) beers since they typically only keg their beer. Funky Kingston began as a copper ale made from Organic 2-Row, Pilsner and CaraMunich malted barley and Organic wheat. Its primary fermentation began in late 2012 in stainless with a mixed yeast culture of brewer’s ale yeast. Soon after, it was racked to American oak Cabernet barrels where Brettanomyces and Pediococcus bacteria were added. The Brett slowly created a funky and earthy flavor and aroma and, more recently, lactic acid from the bacteria has appeared, adding smooth background sour notes. Funky Kingston is indeed a special blend of malt, funk, sour and oak. 7.4% ABV/Austin, TX/No ratings yet/Availability: very limited

Avery Beast – Avery’s Grand Cru, this is brewed with two-row malted barley, honey malt, and imported Belgian specialty grains (aromatic, pale wheat, roasted wheat, and Special B), hops (Magnum, Galena, Saaz, Hallertau, Tettnang, and Hersbrucker), brewing sugars (raisins, dates, blackstrap molasses, alfalfa honey, turbinado, and dark Belgian candy sugar), water, Belgian yeast and another hellion of a yeast strain. 16.9% ABV/Boulder, CO/Ratebeer 97/Availability: very limited

Save the World Apocalypse Quad – STW’s latest special 750mL release is a rich, dark & malty Belgian quadrupel. Dark fruit flavors and aroma are quite present, along with Belgian candi sugar richness & sweetness. The dark horse in this brew is the use of brettanomyces yeast to add a hint of tartness for a well rounded and complex brew. 9% ABV/Marble Falls, TX/No ratings/Availability: plenty

Green Flash Green Bullet Triple IPA – A full-bodied Triple IPA, Green Bullet combines New Zealand grown Pacific Gem and Green Bullet hops. Significant pine and citrus hoppiness hit the palate at first sip, accentuated by tropical notes of mango and pineapple, ending with a moderately aggressive, bitter finish. 10.1% ABV/San Diego, CA/Ratebeer 97/Availability: decent

Uinta Oak Jacked Imperial Pumpkin
– Jacked is brewed with fresh pumpkin and fall spices and has been aging in Oak barrels for 6 months. The oak barrels add subtle nuances of toasted vanilla and bourbon notes. With an ABV of 10.31% (a play on the date of Halloween), Jacked is a big, unique pumpkin ale. 10.31% ABV/Salt Lake City, UT/Ratebeer 97/Availability: limited

Victory Festbier – Subtly sweet with a delicate malt nose, Festbier gains its body from the use of all imported German malts and decoction brewing process. 5.6% ABV/Downington, PA/Beer Advocate 85/Availability: plenty

Sierra Nevada Ovila Barrel Aged Belgian Dubbel – The reserve collaboration series that Sierra Nevada does with the abbey of New Clairvaux is one of the coolest series they do. This time they took their Belgian-style Dubbel and aged it in both red wine and bourbon barrels. Sounds delicious! 8.5% ABV/Chico, CA/No ratings/Availability: limited

Green Flash Natura Morta Plum – Natura Morta Plum begins as a Belgian-style Saison fermented in foudres with Brettanomyces, then is aged in red wine barrels with Italian plum puree. After six months, a pink hued ale emerges. Elegant and flavorful, it renders notes of tart plum, rosewater and almond, balanced by barrel-drawn tannins and a refined dry finish. 5.5% ABV/San Diego, CA/No ratings yet/Availability: extremely limited

Brooklyn Quintaceratops – Brooklyn Quintaceratops started life as a batch of Brooklyn’s “prehistoric” quadrupel-style ale called Quadraceratops. It then spent months in Trinidadian rum barrels and a victory lap in American bourbon barrels rendered the beer deeply funky like the rums of old, with flavors of tobacco and molasses. 10.9% ABV/Brooklyn, NY/No ratings yet/Availability: very limited

Clown Shoes Rexx – Clown Shoes continues their impressive barrel aging program, this time with a turn of their imperial red ale in Heaven Hill & Four Roses bourbon barrels. 12% ABV/Ipswich, MA/No ratings yet/Availability: decent

Hops & Grain Greenhouse #27* – It’s back again! This time with Hersbrucker, Jaryllo and Mosaic. 7.7% ABV/Austin, TX/No ratings/Availability: plenty/*Arriving Friday

Texian Donkey Lady – Named after a famously “haunted” bridge in San Antonio, Donkey Lady started as Texian’s popular Charlie Foxtrot Imperial Berliner Weisse. It was then aged on apples and spices for a tart but fruity finish. 7.1% ABV/Richmond, TX/No ratings yet/Availability: limited

Sam Adams Honey Queen – A Braggot, historically a harmonious blend of mead and beer, gained notice during medieval times and dates back as far as the 12th century. The combination of three unique honeys and the complexity of the hops and chamomile in this braggot style beer create a whimsical brew that is floral with a tart sweetness and a much awaited honey finish.  7.5% ABV/Boston, MA/Beer Advocate 85/Availability: plenty

Crown Valley Imperial Pumpkin Smash – One of the most popular pumpkin beers last year, Imperial Pumpkin Smash is deliciously roasted with dark chocolate and toffee notes with a hint of smoke and a little spice from the hops that give it a pine note. The pumpkin adds body and character for a great beer. Comes in 4 packs or singles. 10.6% ABV/St. Genevieve, MO/Ratebeer 96/Availability: plenty but will go fast

Stevens Point Whole Hog Pumpkin Ale – Also one of last year’s faves, this one is brewed with pumpkin and spices. Hand crafted using real pumpkin and savory pumpkin pie spices and hints of all natural cinnamon and nutmeg. Perle hops balance with rich Munich, Roasted, and Caramel malts for the full-bodied taste and exceptional flavor. 7.5% ABV/Stevens Point, WI/Ratebeer 94/Availability: plenty but will go fast

We have two new 5 Stones Barrel Reserve beers arriving this Friday: the Barrel Reserve Spanish Monk & Barrel Reserve Aloha Piña. Both are standard beers that spend time in chardonnay and tequila barrels, respectively. Small batch and unique, just like all 5 Stones brews.

Southern Tier Pumking (now in 4 packs!)* – The king of pumpkin beers is back, and this year in 4 packs! Imperial Pumpkin ale brewed with actual pumpkin flesh for a very gourdy flavor. Malty sweetness, vanilla, clove, allspice, cinnamon, nutmeg, pie crust. 8.6% ABV/Lakewood, NY/Ratebeer 98/Availability: plenty/*Arriving Friday

Prairie Pirate Noir* – Pirate Noir is Prairie’s very popular and delicious Noir that is then Jamaican rum barrel aged. Jester King Snörkel – Jester King partnered with neighboring Logro Farms to grow oyster mushrooms that were then combined with alderwood smoked sea salt in this slightly salty farmhouse ale.  The mushrooms were grown with spent grain from the brewery itself, creating a full circle. 4.5% ABV/Austin, TX/Ratebeer 91/Availability: decent

Sam Adams Fat Jack – It’s pumpkin beer season! Our employees took a mini internal poll 2 weeks ago to see if someone could guess the first pumpkin beer to be released, and alas, no one guessed Sam Adams. 28 pounds of pumpkin are used per barrel, in addition to cinnamon, nutmeg and allspice for a traditional pumpkin pie-style flavor. 8.5% ABV/Boston, MA/Ratebeer 89/Availability: plenty

Deschutes Pine Drop IPA – This lively IPA delivers a crisp and light malt body with ample citrus and pine notes from Chinook and Equinox hops. 6.5% ABV/Bend, OR/Ratebeer 93/Availability: decent

Uinta Dubhe Imperial Black IPA – Dubhe is comprised of five hop varieties, a hop profile bold enough to shine through the roasted, dark malt character of this beer. A citrusy hop aroma, achieved by dry hopping with a proprietary blend of extreme Northwest hops, balanced with notes of mild dark chocolate and a hint of sweet licorice. 9.2% ABV/Salt Lake City, UT/Ratebeer 98/Availabilty: plenty

Southern Tier Choklat Oranj – Choklate Oranj is the 5th beer in the Blackwater series of dessert beers. Choklat Oranj is a stout brewed with chocolate and orange peels and opaque black in color.  Would be delicious as a beer float! 10% ABV/Lakewood, NY/Ratebeer 98/Availability: limited

Revolver Ironhead IPA – Revolver’s first year-round IPA is now available in 6 pack bottles. It features Centennial, Citra, Apollo and Saphir hops for a slightly bitter but very aromatic combination. 6.5% ABV/Granbury, TX/No ratings yet/Availabilty: plenty

Boulevard Aztec Chocolate Imperial Stout* – A batch of Imperial Stout was brewed that received freshly ground cinnamon during the boil. This batch was then blended with tanks of Imperial Stout that are infused with dried pasilla negro and ancho chiles as well as cacao nibs. The chiles and cacao nibs were stuffed into porous bags and suspended in sanitized stainless steel tanks. Finished beer is transferred onto the chiles and nibs and allowed to rest for 24 hours of contact time. Following the infusion, the beer is transferred to a blending tank and blended with the cinnamon spiced batch.  11% ABV/Kansas City, MO/Ratebeer 97/Availability: limited

Ballast Point Calm Before the Storm* – Calm Before the Storm came from a quest for a warm weather alternative to the popular Victory at Sea Imperial Porter. Like its more robust cousin, cold brewed Caffé Calabria coffee and a hint of vanilla are used to punch up the flavor. But this time, it was added to a lighter-bodied golden cream ale. The end result is a surprisingly bright, coffee-forward beer that’s perfectly refreshing. 5.5% ABV/San Diego, CA/Beer Advocate 86/Availability: decent/*Arriving Friday

Infinite Monkey Theorem Pear Cider – IMT is an urban cidery first located in the RiNo district of Denver. Their two founders and owners recently relocated to Austin and are planning on building out another urban winery tasting room right on South Congress. In the meantime, we’re excited about their dry hopped pear cider that comes in red bull-shaped cans. Citra and Nelson Sauvin hops give a bright, citrusy and tropical fruit aroma. 5.6% ABV/Denver, CO/Availability: decent

Both Weihenstephaner and Spaten Oktoberfest beers have just launched, so get some authentic Munich märzen action!

Boulevard Tell Tale Tart* – Brand new in the Smokestack 4 pack series, this is a kettle sour mash with a light lactic note on the aroma and hint of tart cherry as well. On the palate, there is a mild dose of lactic/slightly acetic tartness right up front, followed by a bit of tart cherry moving back on the sip. Very dry finish. 6.2% ABV/Kansas City, MO/Beer Advocate 84/Availability: decent

Buffalo Bayou Saigon Sunset – Vanilla Mocha Sunset porter is the base beer to which Vietnamese cinnamon is added for a sweet, spicy and complex brew. 8% ABV/Houston, TX/No ratings yet
