Happy Thanksgiving from WhichCraft!

Thanks so much to everyone who pre-ordered a Craft Beer Advent Calendar! The WhichCraft crew (and a half dozen wonderful volunteers!) spent all week gift wrapping a grand total of 75 cases of beers. That’s 1800 individually wrapped beers! They are now all ready for pick up any day beginning tomorrow, Friday 11/28. For those that pre-ordered, you essentially have roughly a 1 in 17 chance to win a golden box! Best of luck.

We are closed Thanksgiving (nom nom nom) but are open normal hours on Black Friday, 11am – 10pm.

Speaking for the WhichCraft crew, we are all extremely thankful this Thanksgiving for our wonderful customers. We are continually reminded how much fun it is to run this store. We love our customers and thank you for your continued support of our small local bottle shop.

New Beers This Week

Infamous Sweep the Leg – This beer gets our vote for most awesome beer name of the year. Also bonus points for the Cobra Kai logo on the label as well. The beer itself is a peanut butter stout which tastes like a liquid Reese’s in a bottle. Nuff said. 7% ABV/Austin, TX/No ratings yet

Austin Eastciders Small Batch #1 – Well, I can’t find much info online about this first in the Eastciders Small Batch series. We’re sure it’s delicious, so just give it a try!

5 Stones Camo – Seth & crew first brewed this beer in 2013 and it was such a hit they brought it back this winter. It’s a pale stout in which they use fresh coffee beans to trick the senses. It pours a nice golden in color but has the same roasty flavor you’d expect from a stout. 7.8% ABV/Cibolo, TX/Ratebeer 85

5 Stones Toby G’s – Brewed as a tribute to Seth’s father, the base beer here is generally considered a brown ale to which pecans, vanilla and TX honey are added.  7.2% ABV/Cibolo, TX/Beer Advocate 85

Oddwood Saison – One of the more unique “new” breweries to start up recently, this is actually a side project from Adelbert’s head brewer Taylor Ziebarth. He is committed to all barrel aged and funky/sour beers, and his first bottle release is a saison aged in oak with brettanomyces added. Expect more excellent things from Taylor going forward.  6.4% ABV/Austin, TX/No ratings yet

Deschutes Chasin Freshies – Deschutes was able to get their hands on enough Mosaic wet hops to put out this year’s version of Chasin Freshies. Expect big floral and citrusy aroma & flavor. Drink fresh! 7.2% ABV/Bend, OR/Ratebeer 98

Scaldis Noel – One of the holiday season’s most anticipated annual releases, the Scaldis Noel is a Belgian Strong Dark ale with flavors of dark fruit – figs, dates, raisins, etc.  At 12% ABV it comes in 11.2 oz bottles in 4 packs and singles. Happy Holidays! 12% ABV/Pipaix, Belgium/Ratebeer 97

Scaldis Peche – What do you get when you brew a slightly lighter version of classic Scaldis amber and add peach juice? A deliciously drinkable beer with a heady aroma of peach, a well-balanced malt character, and a surprisingly dry finish. 8.5% ABV/Pipaix, Belgium/Beer Advocate 82

Southern Star Le Mort Vivant – This biere de garde from Southern Star is rustic, malty and complex. Displays subtle notes of baked apples and stewed pears in the nose and flavor. Hints of anise and delicate spice. 6.6% ABV/Conroe, TX/Beer Advocate 81

Samuel Smith’s Winter Welcome – This seasonal beer is a limited edition brewed for the short days and long nights of winter. The full body resulting from fermentation in ‘stone Yorkshire squares’ and the luxurious malt character, which will appeal to a broad range of drinkers, is balanced against whole-dried Fuggle and Golding hops.  6% ABV/Tadcaster, England/Beer Advocate 83

Rahr & Sons Rahrzehnt – Rahr commemorates their 10th anniversarsy with this imperial chocolate milk stout. 9% ABV/Fort Woth, TX/No ratings yet

Rahr Winter Warmer – Wonderfully robust, rich and full-bodied, Rahr’s Winter Warmer is created in the fine British tradition of strong, dark holiday ales.  8.5% ABV/Fort Woth, TX/Ratebeer 86

Mateo y Bernabe 25 – Imported from Spain, this is a hand-crafted strong, dark ale.  Prepared in the Belgian or Abbey style. Reddish-brown in colour, sweet and fruity with overtone hints of spices. Well-rounded and rich, its full-bodied flavour seduces and lingers.  5.2% ABV/Logrono, Spain/no ratings yet

Lazy Magnolia Black Creek Stout – Wade into darker waters with Lazy Magnolia’s Black Creek Imperial Stout. Black as the bayou on a moonless winter night, this 8.5% Southern-Style Imperial Stout begins with aromas of dark chocolate and coffee, followed by a savory blend of roasted barley and caramel flavors, with a velvety-sweet finish. 8.5% ABV/Kiln, MS/Beer Advocate 88
