We’re going to taste the Nebraska Brewing barrel aged lineup in its entirety! We just received two new ones in this series this week (details below) in addition to the existing ones we have in stock. The whole lineup will be: HopAnomaly, Black Betty, Fathead, Melange a Trois, Responsibly & Sexy Betty.

New Beers This Week

Back in stock: Karbach BBH Chocolate, Prairie Bomb.

5 Stones Mr Nibbles – 5 Stones’ latest release is an English brown ale with a whole heap of various nuts added: almonds, pecans, filberts, Brazil nuts as well as maple syrup. Nutty and caramel flavors. 5.2% ABV/Cibolo, TX/No ratings yet/Availability: plenty

5 Stones Back from Bridge City – 5 Stones has made this one before but it was definitely popular when it came out last year. It’s a White IPA using Sterling, Santiam and Amarillo hops as well additions of coriander and Texas grapefruit. 6.3% ABV/Cibolo, TX/No ratings yet/Availability: plenty

Nebraska Responsibly – The latest in Nebraska’s Barrel Aged Reserve Series is a Belgian-style quad aged for 6 months in decades old American Brandy barrels. The Belgian nose meshes with the sweet character to create an experience entirely unique. 13% ABV/Papillion, NE/No ratings yet/Availability: plenty

Nebraska Sexy Betty – Another in the same series is Sexy Betty, Nebraska’s popular Russian Imperial Stout aged in 50 year old American Brandy barrels. Bring this and its sister beer Black Betty (same base beer in whiskey barrels) to your next bottle share! 11.3% ABV/Papillion, NE/Ratebeer 99/Availability: plenty

Knee Deep Lupulin River – This Double IPA includes Mosaic and Simcoe hops, South American specialty malt, and tons of tastiness. Looks like liquid gold, smells like a bright tropical fruit pine forest, and tastes like all that and more. 8% ABV/Auburn, CA/Ratebeer 98/Availability: plenty

Noble Rey Brewing is launching in Austin this week, with four year-round beers in very well designed cans. They’re a fairly new brewpub in Dallas’ design district and their launch beers are: Steampunk steam beer, Off The Leash red ale, Baracus Brown and Golden Rey witbier. All available in 6 packs, singles, or try a mixed 4 pack containing one of each!

Circle Devil’s Night – The second beer in the Inner Circle series features a similar whiskey barrel aging treatment, but this time with Circle’s Nightlight dry Irish stout. The base beer is very dry and roasty, so the barrel adds more vanilla, caramel and sweetness to the party. 4.7% ABV/Austin, TX/No ratings yet/Availability: plenty

Southern Tier Back Burner – The last time Southern Tier released this beer was in 2012 in bombers which was an aggressive way to have to enjoy this beer. This time it’s in 4 packs which is a much better way to have a 10.5% barleywine. Blackstrap molasses and local maple syrup help boost the ABV in this rich but still hoppy brew. 10.5% ABV/Lakewood, NY/Ratebeer 98/Availability: decent

Back Country Brewing based in Frisco, Colorado also launched this week in Austin. They’re a multiple GABF winning brewery and they’ve launched with three styles – an Imperial Saison, a Double IPA and a Breakfast Stout.

Dogfish Head Beer to Drink Music To – We were lucky enough to be one of only 2 locations in Austin to be Dogfish Head Record Store Day accounts. That means we’ll be getting one of their limited edition record players and we’ve got a big ol’ stack of Beer to Drink Music To – a Record Store Day collab. It’s a Belgian-style Tripel in 4 packs brewed with sweet orange peel, green cardamom, peppercorns and vanilla. 9% ABV/Milton, DE/No ratings yet/Availability: plenty

Dogfish Head Romantic Chemistry – Another new Dogfish release, Romantic Chemistry is brewed with an intermingling of mangos, apricots and ginger, and then dry-hopped with three varieties of hops to deliver a tropical fruit aroma and a hop-forward finish. 7.2% ABV/Milton, DE/Ratebeer 85/Availability: plenty

SanTan MoonJuice Galactic IPA – An out-of-this-world IPA crafted with tons of Galaxy and Nelson-Sauvin hops, emitting an aroma of peach, apricot and tropical fruit. 7.3% ABV/Chandler, AZ/Ratebeer 90/Availability: decent

Deschutes Abyss* – Now, please be warned: there’s a chance this may not get delivered on our truck tomorrow. Check our Twitter feed for the most up-to-date new releases, or feel free to call the store tomorrow and ask our staff whether it arrived. Abyss is an annually released beast of an imperial stout, brewed with tons of different malt and hops and spending time in various barrels. This particular batch was aged in bourbon, Oregon oak and pinot noir barrels and blended. 12.2% ABV/Bend, OR/Ratebeer 100/Availability: plenty but will go fast/*Hopefully arriving Friday

St Arnold Divine Reserve 16* – We’re also very excited about the latest Divine Reserve, but it comes with the same caveat that it may not be on the truck tomorrow. This is a rotating series and this release is a lesser known beer style called Adambier. The Adambier style was popular in Dortmund, Germany until the mid-19th century, when Pilsners and Munich-style lagers began to take over. Eventually, the style became largely extinct until recently, as more and more breweries look to their brewing roots. DR16 has a moderately-high bitterness that is balanced nicely by its residual malty sweetness. Both 6 packs and bombers will be available. 10% ABV/Houston, TX/No ratings yet/Availability: plenty/*Hopefully arriving Friday

Friday

We’ll be celebrating Texas winners of medals from the Great American Beer Festival in 2014. We’ll be tasting Community Public Ale ESB, Grapevine Sir Williams brown, Oasis London Homesick and Austin Beerworks Fire Eagle.
