Greenhouse, Mosaic, Bigfoot, Founders in stock, and Thirsty Planet is finally in Bottles!

Our friends at Thirsty Planet have been saying for eternity that they plan on bottling their beers and that day is finally here! Thirsty Goat amber ale is the first of the lineup to be bottled and it’s currently in stock. Tyrell from the brewery will be by the shop during our Friday evening tasting this week to meet customers and help support the launch.

For the tasting, we’ll be doing the whole STW lineup of special occasion beers: Biere de Garde, Golden Strong, Barleywine & the new Scotch Ale. Plus the rep Cory’s flowing locks and colloquialisms are always a treat.

South Austin Brewing just recently launched their latest release, Six String Saison, in 4 pack cans last week. We’re happy to host their new rep Amy to our tasting bar to sample out all 4 of their current year-round offerings.

New Beers This Week

Back in stock:  Community Mosaic (bottled this Tuesday!), Community Legion Imperial Stout & Infamous Sweep the Leg.

Thirsty Planet Thirsty Goat – First time in bottles! Local brewery Thirsty Planet has been saying for years they’re going to start bottling their beer and we’re happy to say they have finally done it! 6 packs of their sweet & caramel malty amber ale Thirsty Goat are now available. 6.5% ABV/Austin, TX/Beer Advocate 80

Hops & Grain Greenhouse – H&G Greenhouse #12 is in stock! Our favorite rotating IPA series is back again, this time with a sumptuous blend of Cascade, Centennial, Chinook, Mosaic, Amarillo, Hersbrucker, Nugget, Meridian and Wakatu. The H&G folks each picked their favorite from the Greenhouse series so #12 showcases all of their favorite hops in one beer.

Clown Shoes The Peace That Money Can’t Buy – Clown Shoes is five years old! This bourbon barrel aged Belgian Style Quadrupel Ale commemorates their anniversary. You’ll get the nice dark fruit flavors and esters from the Belgian yeast strain but also a bit of caramel, oak & heat from the bourbon barrels. 11.5% ABV/Ipswich, MA/Beer Advocate 90

Odell Runoff Red IPA – Dank tropical fruit with a zesty, piney green underpinning. Very interesting hop profile that leaves a lively lemon/citrus prickliness on the palate, but is also balanced by earthy flavors.  6.5% ABV/Fort Collins, CO/Ratebeer 96

Solid Rock Trinity Vanilla Milk Stout – The milk stout was very popular in the United States prior to World War II. It uses lactose sugar to add a smooth, mellow sweetness to the beer. Solid Rock’s version was crafted using brown, chocolate, and coffee specialty malts to create a subtle nutty, chocolate sense with a coffee undertone. A hint of pure vanilla is added late in the fermentation stage to tease the senses and round out a touch of vanilla sweetness. 5% ABV/Spicewood, TX/No ratings yet

Odell Lugene Chocolate Milk Stout – Made with lactose and milk chocolate, the aroma is of oatmeal, chocolate and malt. Taste is quite similar with some raisin taste. A perfect dessert beer. 8.5% ABV/Fort Collins, CO/Ratebeer 98

Ducato Chrysopolis* – To add to the crazy sour lineup from Ducato in Italy (PS – Beersel Mattina back in stock – arriving Friday!), the Chrysopolis is a gueuze with a nice lactic sourness. Aromas of green apples, sour pear & apricot. Lingering tartness. 5.5% ABV/Italy/Beer Advocate 88  *Arriving Friday

Ducato Baciami Lipsia* – Another unique offering from Ducato, this sour beer is inoculated with Lactobacillus blended with a Gose brewed with Himalayan pink salt and aged for 9 months. Complex, tart & salty.  4.5% ABV/Italy/Ratebeer 95  *Arriving Friday

Cedar Creek Fisticuffs Barley Wine* – The newest seasonal release from Cedar Creek is their Fisticuffs Barley Wine. I’m having trouble finding any info on it, so just suffice to say that’s it’s the newest release!

Founders Imperial Stout – A fine companion to end a meal or relax in front of the hearth with, this robust ale will cellar well for years. Brewed with ten varieties of malted barley this stout is extremely smooth, complex and rich in body. We recommend serving at cellar temperature. Sit back and enjoy its richness and complexity, you’re about to drink the ultimate winter warmer. 10.5% ABV/Grand Rapids, MI/Ratebeer 100

Save the World Bonus Pastor Scotch Ale – The latest release from the STW crew is a Belgian-style scotch ale. Rich malt and caramel with hints of nut and dried fruits. Tasting for free tonight 6-8pm! 9% ABV/Marble Falls, TX/No ratings yet

Victory Old Horizontal – A barley wine that is luxuriously rich in character, this warming winter ale delivers over 11% alcohol in an oh-so-seductive manner. Deliciously fruity flavors lie under a bracing hop nose.  11% ABV/Downington, PA/Ratebeer 100

Anderson Valley Barney Flats Oatmeal Stout – With its deep, dark brown-black color, thick, full-bodied, velvety-smooth mouth feel, mocha character, and, strong yet subtle hop bite, Barney Flats Oatmeal Stout is one of the thickest, richest, and most complex stouts on the market today. 5.8% ABV/Boonville, CA/Ratebeer 96

Harpoon Long Thaw White IPA – A tasty blend of styles, with notes of orange peel and coriander and a soft mouthfeel reminiscent of a Belgian wit, but with the hop additions of Simcoe, Citra and Cascade. Hoppy but mellow. 6.2% ABV/Boston, MA/Beer Advocate 86

Victory 19th Anniversary Session IPA – Victory celebrates their 19th anniversary by brewing a session IPA. Thin bodied and very drinkable with a nice hop bouquet & bite. 4.5% ABV/Downington, PA/Beer Advocate 85

Urthel Hop-It – Nose is malt, perfume, hops, bubblegum notes. Flavor is sweet and malty, slightly bready notes, fruity and spicy notes along with some hops in the finish. Very hoppy compared to most Belgian ales. 9.5% ABV/Ruiselede, Belgium/Ratebeer 95

Wyder’s Pear Reposado – Tequila barrel aged pear cider! ‘Nuff said. 6.9% ABV/Port Moody, Canada

North Coast Old Stock – Old Stock is an old ale brewed with classic floor-malted Maris Otter Pale Malt and Fuggles Hops imported from England, so it’s a beer to be served proudly. With an original gravity of over 1100 and a generous hopping rate, Old Stock Ale is well designed to round out and mellow with age. 11.9% ABV/Fort Bragg, CA/Ratebeer 98

Deschutes Zarabanda – This lovely saison provides a complex malt body formed from generous use of Vienna and spelt malts which are bound together with flaked oats. A classic saison yeast strain contributes spicy notes, which are complemented by pink peppercorn, lemon verbena, sumac and dried lemon. 6.1% ABV/Bend, OR/Ratebeer 88

Sierra Nevada Bigfoot Sierra Nevada Bigfoot is an award winning example of the English Barley Wine style. It boasts a dense, fruity bouquet, an extremely rich, intense, bittersweet palate; and a deep, reddish-brown color. This ale is superbly balanced between an almost overpowering maltiness and a wonderfully bittersweet hoppiness. Will cellar exceptionally well! Drink one now and save the other three for later. 9.6% ABV/Chico, CA/Ratebeer 99

Southern Tier Grand Arbor – Aromatically earthy with distinct fruity esters and low to moderate noble hop character. Balanced fruity character blends into crisp biscuit notes with a dry tart finish. Maple syrup is added to lend an earthy/woody character rather than an overt sweetness. 8% ABV/Lakewood, NY/Ratebeer 94

Southern Tier Crème Brulee – The latest release in the Southern Tier Blackwater series is the crème brulee, arguably the sweetest of the 4 annual releases in this series. It tastes exactly as it’s named. Syrupy sweet but goes down ridiculously easy for 9.6% ABV. Lakewood, NY/Ratebeer 98

Goose Island Pere Jacques – Brewed with loads of malt and Belgian yeast, Pere Jacques is a wonderfully fruity, malty ale. Pere Jacques’ complex flavors stand shoulder to shoulder with the Belgian dubbels enjoyed in the world’s finest beer bars. At the dining table it’s the perfect alternative to a glass of vintage port. 8.7% ABV/Chicago, IL/Ratebeer 97

Goose Island Pepe Nero – A black rye saison that combines a roasted/smoky malt character in balance with a pepper spice from the yeast. Finishes dry with a refreshing level of carbonation. 6.4% ABV/Chicago, IL/Ratebeer 93
