Whichcraft Mueller Is Growing Up so Fast

Good news, everyone! We’re turning 1 at Mueller this month, and we’re celebrating this joyous event on Saturday the 11th, from 12-8pm, and we’re blowing this baby out! We’ll have special keg tappings, rare bottles for sale each hour, and expanded food options. We’re keeping the bottles a surprise, but the kegs we’re tapping are: Firestone Walker Parabola, Stickee Monkee, and Mocha Merlin; Jester King collaborations Bouffon and Gammalux; Pinthouse Pizza Wet Hop Nomura; a cask of Lone Pint Yellow Rose w/pineapple; and St. Arnold Pumpkinator. Thank you for all your support and patronage these last twelve months, we couldn’t have done it without you.

As we roll over into November, we welcome in a new Brewery of the Month: Brazos Valley Brewery! Mama Tried to keep these 7 Spanish Angels out of your hands, but gods Willin’, you’ll soon be Killin’ Time with these tasty beauts. All month, enjoy the beers listed above: Mama Tried, Killin’ Time, Willin’, and 7 Spanish Angels six packs for $5.99. $5.99! Dollar Sign Five Ninety-Nine!

And it’s another of our favorite times of the year, where we turn to our adoring public and humbly ask you to lavish praise and accolades on us. In other words, it’s time for the Austin Beer Guide Awards. 14 different categories to celebrate everything fantastic in our town’s world of beer.  Check out this link and vote for your favorite brewery, beer, and *ahem* bottle shop and beer bar.

With Daylight Savings Time ending this weekend, and as we get darker and colder (albeit briefly), you need some beer to keep you warm. We got you covered with our Advent Calendars. Get the details about them here, but long story short: you need to order one! $100 for 24 mystery beers, to be opened each day in December leading up to Christmas. They can be pre-ordered at either location, either in person or over the phone. We’re only making 150 of them this year, and pickup begins November 17, so order one now!

And finally, congratulations to Scott Fife for winning our Singles Game. His guess of 386 was closest to the overall amount of 380. Holy cow, that’s a lot of beer. Make sure to come by and help us decrease that number.

New Beers This Week

(All beer available at both WhichCraft locations unless otherwise noted)

Community Barrel-Aged Legion (Jamaican Rum) – This huge, complex stout is a wonderful medley of flavors and aromas including chocolate, oak, coffee, toasted coconut and rum. 11.6% ABV / Dallas. TX / BeerAdvocate 99 / Availability: Limited

Live Oak Primus – A dark, rich German-style Weizen beer (beer made with wheat malt) fermented with a very particular strain of brewers’ yeast that gives this beer it’s unique spicy and fruity character. The unfiltered beer has the characteristic clove and banana flavors familiar to Hefeweizen drinkers but with a darker and richer roasty malt character that is typical of some German-style Bock beers. 8% ABV / Austin, TX / RateBeer 95 / Availability: Decent

Uinta Grapefruit Hop Nosh – The latest twist on their flagship IPA features an aromatic burst of fresh-squeezed white grapefruit, complementing its bold, hop-forward character. Tangy, juicy, and slightly sweet, Grapefruit Hop Nosh is ripe for the picking. 7.3% ABV / Salt Lake City, UT / Availability: Good / SoLa Only

Lagunitas Eroica – This is a Lagunitas-ified version of a traditional Flemish Farmouse ale, aged in red wine oak barrels and funkied up with Brettanomyces yeast. It’s a golden saison-sour with a nice tartness that leaves your buds quenched and wanting more. 8% ABV / Petaluma, CA / Availability: Good / SoLa Only

Abita 30/90 –  This is a German style Kolsh that is brewed with Pilsner malt as well as wheat and oats. This gives the beer A bright straw like color and sweet malty taste. It is lightly hopped and dry hopped with Hallertau Blanc hops for a slightly fruity flavor and aroma. 4.6% ABV / Abita Springs, LA / Availability: Good / SoLa Only

Anchor Christmas – A smooth and creamy winter warmer with rich flavors of cacao, toffee, and roasted nuts, plus subtle hints of honey and herbal spice. 6.7% ABV / San Francisco, CA / Availability: Good / SoLa Only

Breckenridge Christmas –  The chill of a Colorado high-country winter calls for a beer with extra flavor and strength. Here it is. At over 7% alcohol, with a sturdy texture and rich flavors of caramel and chocolate. 7.6% ABV / Breckenridge, CO / Availability: Good / SoLa Only

Founders Backwoods Bastard – Big and delicious for your ’perty mouth. Expect lovely, warm smells of single malt scotch, oaky bourbon barrels, smoke, sweet caramel and roasted malts. A bit of earthy spice and a scintilla of dark cherries. It’s a kick-back sipper made to excite the palate. 11.6% ABV / Grand Rapids, MI / RateBeer 100 / Availability: Decent / At Mueller now; Lamar on Friday

Adelbert’s Blackberry Barrel of Love – This blend of Barrel of Love took their whiskey barrel-aged quad to a new level with the addition of blackberry. Aged in Treaty Oak Distilling barrels, the barrel lends hints of vanilla and oak balanced with a soft whiskey bite. The ale blends with the flavors from the barrels and contributes rich notes of blackberry, figs raisins and molasses. 10.8% ABV / Austin, TX / Availability: Decent

Hops & Grain Pellets & Powder IPA – With Pellets & Powder IPA, H&G has been experimenting with varying the form of hops added to each tank. Each batch will be different and they’ll continue to trial new and exciting hop varieties in both pellet and powder form. Think of it as Greenhouse IPA on steroids. Or maybe Greenhouse IPA on hallucinogens, depending on how you understand analogies. 6% ABV / Austin, TX / Availability: Decent

Epic Sour Brainless on Pineapple – Sour ale aged in oak barrels with pineapple. 8.7% ABV / Salt Lake CIty, UT / Availability: Good

STILL in stock at Mueller:

New Belgium Oscar No. 65 Sour Brown – Some things only happen once. Only once will their brewer, Ted, win a foeder in a bowling bet against their good friends from Foeder Crafters of America. Only once will fresh beer touch that Missouri White Oak for the first time. Only once will you experience the subtle, round, smooth, vanilla-like notes extracted from the fresh wood. And only once will they bottle that expression. This is Single Foeder Oscar No. 65 / 8.5% ABV / Fort Collins, CO / Availability: Very Limited / Mueller Only

New Belgium Love: Oscar Blackberry – Oscar aged in blackberry-flavored whiskey barrels. 8.5% ABV / Fort Collins, CO / Availability: Very Limited / Mueller Only

New Beers on Draft at WhichCraft Taproom

Full Draft List Available on our Website

Adelbert’s Tripel B This complex, straw-colored ale has clove and pear aromas. A marriage of spicy and fruity flavors help perfectly balance its elegant malt profile. 9.3% ABV / Austin, TX / BeerAdvocate 86

Bravos Valley High Noon – A delicious IPA featuring the new Vic Secret variety of hops for a fragrant nose and a nice hop bite. 6.9% ABV / Brenham, TX

Odell Rupture – Rupture was born out of an obsession with getting the most out of each and every hop. In fact, they built a machine in their brewery to incorporate a unique fresh grind process. By grinding the whole hop, they “rupture” the lupulin inside – releasing the oil that gives the beer its flavor. And what they grind that day, they use that day. Leaving you a beer that’s fresh, aromatic, with an unparalleled bright, hoppy character. 6% ABV / Fort Collins, CO / RateBeer 94

Deschutes Black Butte XXIX – 29th Birthday Reserve. Porter brewed with Dutched cocoa, Belgian cinnamon, and cayenne. 50% aged in Bourbon and Rum barrels. 12.2% ABV / Bend, OR / RateBeer 99

Jester King Biere de Miel – On brewday, they added raw, Texas wildflower honey from Good Flow Honey Co. in Austin, Texas late in the boil. After the first several weeks of fermentation, they added more honey to the beer. Finally, the beer was 100% naturally-refermented in bottles, kegs, and casks using more of the raw, Texas wildflower honey. In addition to the honey, Bière de Miel was brewed with Hill Country well water, malted barley, malted wheat, and hops. 5.8% ABV / Austin, TX

Weathered Souls Rule 4080 – All-Citra pale ale, dry hopped once with Citra hops. Mild bitterness, low ABV, subtle malt character that brings out the beer. Very hop forward on the nose. Fruity characteristics from Citra: citrus, pineapple and mangoes. 5.2% ABV / San Antonio, TX

Founders Breakfast Stout – The coffee lover’s consummate beer. Brewed with an abundance of flaked oats, bitter and imported chocolates, and two types of coffee, this stout has an intense fresh-roasted java nose topped with a frothy, cinnamon-colored head that goes forever. 8.3% ABV / Grand Rapids, MI / RateBeer 100
