Bringing the Style Down South

South Lamar has been feeling a little left out from the great Style Night events, with Mueller having all the fun. So, we decided to fix that for Saturday night’s tasting. Join us as our own Lex Bulla tastes, compares, and examines six different Berliner Weisses…with YOU! Lineup includes Bayerischer Bahnhof Berliner Style Weisse, Professor Fritz Briem 1809, Prairie Weisse, Independence Cucumber Redbud, Austin Beerworks Einhorn, and Bruery Frucht: Cherry Lemon. This is free to attend between 6-8, don’t miss it!

Finally, it’s a great day for Austin craft beer: Celis has returned and is available in bottles. Starting this week, stop by either Whichcraft location to pick up a six pack of their White, Pale Bock, and Citrus Grandis IPA. And tonight at South Lamar, Tara from Celis will be by to pour samples of all three and talk beer. Be sure to make it down.

Martin House Salsa Verde – Roasted Hatch chili peppers and lime infuse this limited release with a zesty kick. Also attending the fiesta are tomatillos for a subtle sweetness, lime for tartness, and cilantro to mellow it all out. The full-bodied blonde malt provides a great counter-balance for the intense rush of flavor. 7.6% ABV / Ft. Worth, TX / BeerAdvocate 86 / Availability: Good

Collective Brewing Project Foeder Fantasies Wood Folk – A sour golden ale brewed with pilsner malt, spelt, oats, and wheat, before being aged in a foeder for two months. The ale was then transferred to small format red wine barrels where it aged for an additional six to eight months before being bottled. 7.4% ABV / Ft. Worth, TX / BeerAdvocate 88 / Availability: Limited

Southern Star Blood BeltA twist on their classic standard Pine Belt. It’s brewed with fresh blood orange to give it a unique taste that’s both refreshing and mysterious. 6.3% ABV / Conroe, TX / BeerAdvocate 84 / Availability: Good

Odell Sunny Rain – Brewed in honor of all the parents of young kids, Sunny Rain is an American-Style Pale Ale featuring the Australian hop variety Ella. Light on bitterness, but heavy on flavor and aroma, a bright grapefruit and mango character pops from the glass. Each sip is full of layers of hop flavors including citrus, pine, and fresh grass, artfully created through a blend of 6 different hops. 6.2% ABV / Fort Collins, CO / Availability: Good / SoLa Only

Bishops Apple Pineapple – Ahh, fresh pineapple. Whoever thought to cut open a prickly cactus and eat it was a brave genius. This cider is just riding their coattails.5% ABV / Dallas, TX / Availability: Good / SoLa Only

Stone 21st Anniversary IIPA – Stone took all there is to love about the IPA, got creative, dry-hopped it a lot, left it unfiltered and shared it openly in the hopes that in some way it may, in turn, inspire you. / SoLa Only

Victory White MonkeyChardonnay barrels from Wente Vineyards in CA were used with Golden Monkey, happily hibernating inside them for the past three months. 9.5% ABV / Downingtown, PA / RateBeer 94 / Availability: Decent/ SoLa Only

Adelbert’s Sundowner – Biere Brut is a blend of the spicy, fruity notes of a Belgian ale balanced with the mouthfeel and body of a sparkling wine. Brewed with champagne yeast, this effervescent ale possesses white grape and green apple notes with a crisp, bone dry finish. Pair with fresh oysters, crab cakes, or goat cheese. 12% ABV / Austin, TX / BeerAdvocate 83 / Availability: Decent / SoLa Only

Ballast Point Pumpkin Down – The caramel and toffee maltiness of our Piper Down Scottish ale is the perfect backdrop for a boatload of roasted pumpkin. Just before bottling, we add a subtle amount of spice to complement, but not overwhelm, the earthy flavor. It was a smash at the brewery, and we think you’ll agree. 5.8% ABV / San Diego, CA / BeerAdvocate 86 / Availability: Good / Sola Only

Ballast Point Dead Ringer – Dead Ringer Oktoberfest lager is inspired by old-style Mãrzen brews customarily enjoyed during Bavaria’s world-famous beer festival. Thanks to its abundance of toasted malt and a lower hop bitterness, this dark reddish brown lager is loaded with sweet caramel toffee flavors and aromas. All the taste and celebration of Oktoberfest packed into one bottle; no lederhosen required. 6% ABV / San Diego, CA / BeerAdvocate 83 / Availability: Good / Sola Only
