Pucker Up, Buttercup

We are mere days from the sour soiree of Texas Lambic Fest 2017, and we want you to join us to pop botts and slam some lambs. It all goes down from 12-5 this Sunday, August 6th at the Waller Ballroom. Tickets can be bought here for this celebration of some of Belgium’s (and the world’s) finest lambics, krieks, gueuzes, and more! Sponsors include yours truly, Collective Brewing Project, Big Bend Brewing, Hops & Grain, and more. Check the Facebook page for more detailed info. Don’t miss this! And to further add to the celebration, all lambics will be 10% off at both locations this weekend.

And another reminder about our new Brewery of the Month for August: Community Brewing. All month long, six packs of their Mosaic IPA, Witbier, Public Ale, and Texas Helles will be $6.99 at both locations. Don’t miss out!

And finally, we have a date circled, and the great experiment is happening. This Saturday, join us at the South Lamar location when we welcome Pedernales Brewing back to unveil the home-brewed Robert Earl Keen Front Porch Amber and compare it with the actual beer from the brewery, brewed at the same time. This will be an interesting afternoon, tasting the similarities and differences between the two versions.

Southern Star OktoberfestBreak out the lederhosen, it’s time for Oktoberfest! This German style Festbier is amber-hued with a full malt aroma and a thick, creamy, foamy froth. The taste offers a decidedly nutty light roast with an emphasis on malt sweetness that’s smooth and well balanced. 6.25% ABV / Conroe, TX / BeerAdvocate 84 / Availability: Good / SoLa Only

Prairie Prison Rodeo – A hoppy coffee ale brewed with Idaho 7, mosaic, summit and simcoe hops as well as Ethiopia Konga Natural coffee sourced from Spaceship Earth Coffee in McAlester, Oklahoma. 9.5% ABV / Tulsa, OK / Availability: Decent

New Belgium VooDoo Atomic Pumpkin – Pumpkin ale with cinnamon and habanero chili peppers. 6.4% ABV / Fort Collins, CO / Availability: Good / SoLa Only

Karbarch Karbachtoberfest A traditional Marzen lager, Karbachtoberfest is brewed with Munich and Vienna malts and hopped with German noble hops. This brew has an extremely well-rounded malt profile due to months of cold aging. 5.5% ABV / Houston, TX / BeerAdvocate 83 / Availability: Good / SoLa Only

Karbach Hop Delusion – You are in a state of full Hop Delusion, but you knew what you signed up for when you popped this bottle. You knew that it had over 100 IBUs of hop bitterness and that it was dry hopped with insane amounts of Simcoe and Mosaic hops, but you chose to drink it anyway. It’s difficult to say if you will ever snap out of it, for you have been smitten with the disorder that many can never overcome. 9% ABV / Houston, TX / RateBeer 98 / Availability: Good

Founders DKML – Here you have what could be the first malt liquor worthy of a glass. Typically a slighted style, this is classed up with a stay in the wood and a healthy dose of dry-hopping. A huge hit of corn gives this one a smooth sweetness while its time spent aging in bourbon barrels will give you reason to share. Be warned: this one’s a pry-off, not a twist-off. 14.2% ABV / Grand Rapids, MI / Availability: Decent

Real Ale Axis – Brewed for tap walls overrun with the white noise of West Coast IPA’s, here’s an offering so exotic, you’d think it was from another world. Tropical fruit, citrus, and a pale golden body help keep this breed light on its feet. IPA may not have been born in Texas, but it will soon seem as native as the sky that stretches between its borders. 7% ABV / Blanco, TX / RateBeer 96 / Availability: Decent / SoLa Only

Sierra Nevada Tropical Torpedo (Cans) –  This one-of-a-kind Hop Torpedo delivers an intense rush of hop flavor with lush aromas of mango, papaya, and passionfruit with every sip. Enjoy a tropical twist on the American IPA. This beer is hopped with Amarillo, Citra, Comet, El Dorado, and Mosaic. 6.7% ABV / Chico, CA / RateBeer 92 / Availability: Decent / SoLa Only

Odell Sunny Rain – Brewed in honor of all the parents of young kids, Sunny Rain is an American-Style Pale Ale featuring the Australian hop variety Ella. Light on bitterness, but heavy on flavor and aroma, a bright grapefruit and mango character pops from the glass. Each sip is full of layers of hop flavors including citrus, pine, and fresh grass, artfully created through a blend of 6 different hops. 6.2% ABV / Fort Collins, CO / Availability: Good / SoLa Only

Victory Festbier Seductively smooth, this medium-bodied amber beauty is akin to the great Oktoberfest beers of Munich. All German malts and whole flower European hops make this lager true to style. 5.6% ABV / Downingtown, PA / BeerAdvocate 84 / Availability: Good / SoLa Only

ACE Space – Dry California cider with blood oranges. 6.9% ABV / Sebastopol, CA / Availability: Good / SoLa Only

Oasis – Protomodern – A fresh IPA brewed with whole cone hops and hop oil extract.. 8.5% ABV / Austin, TX / Availability: Decent

Ballast Point Pumpkin Down – The caramel and toffee maltiness of our Piper Down Scottish ale is the perfect backdrop for a boatload of roasted pumpkin. Just before bottling, we add a subtle amount of spice to complement, but not overwhelm, the earthy flavor. It was a smash at the brewery, and we think you’ll agree. 5.8% ABV / San Diego, CA / BeerAdvocate 86 / Availability: Good / Sola Only

Ballast Point Dead Ringer – Dead Ringer Oktoberfest lager is inspired by old-style Mãrzen brews customarily enjoyed during Bavaria’s world-famous beer festival. Thanks to its abundance of toasted malt and a lower hop bitterness, this dark reddish brown lager is loaded with sweet caramel toffee flavors and aromas. All the taste and celebration of Oktoberfest packed into one bottle; no lederhosen required. 6% ABV / San Diego, CA / BeerAdvocate 83 / Availability: Good / Sola Only

Shiner Oktoberfest – This classic Oktoberfest brew is made with the highest quality two-row barley, Munich and caramel malts, along with German grown Hallertau Tradition and Hersbrucker hops. It’s their way of honoring their ancestors and the beer they loved to celebrate with. So raise your stein to tradition and enjoy this utterly classic brew. 5.8% ABV / Shiner, TX / Availability: Good / SoLa Only

Saint Arnold Oktoberfest – A full bodied, malty, slightly sweet beer celebrating the Autumn harvest. This rich beer has a round malt flavor and an above average alcohol content perfect for a cool fall evening. 6.6% ABV / Houston, TX / BeerAdvocate 83 / Availability: Good / SoLa Only

Olas Espaciales was foeder aged for 6 ½ months and then transferred to another vessel that previously held their La Roja du Kriek.
